Welcome to Medical Practice “De Ringvaart Vijfhuizen”
The first point of contact in getting healthcare in the Netherlands is to register with a primary care doctor (huisarts in Dutch). In other countries you might know this specialist as a general practitioner (GP), family doctor or family physician. For more information on the Dutch healthcare system and finances click here.
Medical Practice “De Ringvaart Vijfhuizen” is located in health centre “De Nieuwe Brink”. In this centre you can also find the local Pharmacy (ServicePunt Vijfhuizen) and Physiotherapy Practice Berendes.
The GP’s in are practice are dr. Daan van der Stap and dr. Maaike Weesjes. The GP can be consulted only by appointment. Our practice provides modern general health care. We aim to make the Dutch health care system more easily accessible for those who are not familiar with the system.
Our website provides you with important information about our practice. For now, some information is only provided in Dutch. However, our full staff speaks English. Do not hesitate to contact us; we are happy to help.
The practice is full, hence we currently cannot accept new patients. If you are new in the area and in need of help finding a GP, please contact your health insurance company. They can assist in finding you a GP practice.

Home visits
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the practice, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do understand this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 12pm (noon).
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. The doctor will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.
National Population Screening Programme
Some non-Dutch patients are used to a annual health check-up by their doctor in their home country. The Dutch system might be new/different to you. For more explanation about the recommended preventive checkups in The Netherlands: click here
All residents in The Netherlands are invited, at a certain point in their lives, to participate in one of the national screening programmes. The screening programmes are intended to identify diseases at an early stage so that prompt treatment can be given. At the moment, there are:
- Screening programmes for pregnant women and newborns
- Screening programmes for cancer
For more information on these national Dutch Screening Programmes: click here
Please note that screening for cardiovasular diseases is done by us, your GP practice. This screening is done upon request for our patients over 40 years old. You can book an appointment with our specialized nurse (her name is Ms. Mariska Groen) to request this screening.
